FORSAKEN by Leanna Ellis

What does the Amish life and vampires have in common? A lot more than you think. At least it does in Leanna Ellis's recent novel Forsaken. With a hypnotic voice and believable characters, Leanna takes fangs to a whole different level.

FORSAKEN is a mesmerizing tale of a young girl who must choose between light and dark—a judgment that will determine the fate of her soul.

Every single line was put together with such creativity and grace. It's like a breath of fresh air.

You've all heard the expression, "Don't knock it until you try it." I'm here to tell you no matter how crazy the concept may sound. No matter how bizarre it may seem. Don't knock it until you read it. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, couldn't wait to see what happened next. This one's definitely going on the top shelf, under my favorites.

Leann Ellis has indeed painted a very pretty picture. For all you vampire enthusiasts, this one's a must read!

As freshmen at Ocean High last year, Winter and her best friend Sloane thought they could ditch their nerdy past, launching from invisible to cool. So after another miserable year of standing on the social sidelines they make a pact to do whatever it takes not to go unnoticed in their sophomore year, promising each other that whoever makes it into the cool group first will bring the other along.

But once Sloane gets a taste of life on the A-list, she ditches Winter without so much as a second thought. Suddenly cast out of her former best friend's life, Winter takes revenge the modern way: by announcing all of Sloane's dirty little secrets on an anonymous blog. When the blog becomes more popular than she ever dreamed, Winter is left to decide if her retaliation is really worth the consequences—and if the price for popularity is one she's willing to pay. Once again, Alyson Noël navigates the tricky waters of the high school social scene with the heart and humor her readers have come to love.

Writing the Paranormal Novel

Writing the Paranormal Novel: Techniques and Exercises for Weaving Supernatural Elements Into Your Story.

Author: Steven Harper

Publisher: Writers Digest Books

Writing the Paranormal Novel is an excellent guide not only for writing a paranormal story, but it is also useful for writing fiction.

The book is broken into four parts: Gathering the Elements, Summoning the Characters, Casting the Words, and Banishing the Book. It covered lots more than I expected.

Not only does author Steven Harper go over the basics on how to add elements of paranormal and keeping it real, but he also touches base on important topics such as: How to present yourself when researching, interviews, clichés, writing believable fight scenes and flashbacks, and how to avoid two-dimensional protagonist and antagonists. Each chapter is very detailed and easy to follow. Great techniques and exercises for weaving supernatural elements into your story.

A nice little bonus is added in the last two chapters. In chapter 14, The Reality, he talks about the publishing world, what expect and strategies for getting published. He also shows you how to deal with scams, criticism, queries, rejections, pitch sessions and more. In the final chapter, Destruction and Creation, he shares how to build your career with a little hard work.

All in all, this book is packed to the rim with lots of great tips and info. Whether you're thinking about writing a paranormal novel or just want to learn more about writing, this book has it all.

A great read for aspiring novelists. Especially paranormal novelists.

Steven Harper Piziks was born in Saginaw, Michigan, but he moved around a lot. Currently he lives with his wife and three sons near Ann Arbor, Michigan. His novels include In the Company of Mind and Corporate Mentality, both science fiction published by Baen Books. Writing as Steven Harper for Roc Books, he has produced The Silent Empire series. He's also written movie novelizations and books based on Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and The Ghost Whisperer.

Mr. Piziks currently teaches English in southeast Michigan. When not writing, he plays the folk harp, dabbles in oral storytelling, and spends more time on-line than is probably good for him.

Frustrated with the drawing lessons he was taking in 1998 John Hastings began simplifying the process of learning to draw. He was motivated by his belief that there was a missing link in the usual approach. Influenced by the writings of positive reinforcement trainer Karen Pryor, he became fascinated with the possibilities for breaking drawing skills into small, achievable steps. In The Drawing Breakthrough Book, he combines years of research and experimentation with his passion for drawing to create a unique system for learning how to draw.

The Tale of Eartha the Sea Turtle is a fabulous and colorful story about a young sea turtle named Eartha who finds help in the last place she expects.

Based on a true story, the tale starts off as Eartha enjoys a swim but swims into something she had never seen before. The more she tries to get out of the tangled mess, the more it takes a hold of her. Pleading help from her fellow sea friends, they all try to release her but unfortunately the mess happens to be much bigger and stronger then all of them put together.

If nobody from the sea can help her, who can?

Sad and alone, fear sets in as Eartha searches for hope and the will to survive, but how could she if all of her friends can't help her? Mr.Crab's claws aren't sharp enough. Squid's tentacles aren't mighty enough. Not even a lobster or a clam can help.

Later that night Eartha stares at the moon in hopes of becoming free. Only a miracle can save her now. She notices the moon getting bigger and bigger. And then the whole sea around her lights up.

In the end there is a happily ever after and Eartha is swept away by somebody who cares. Somebody she least expects.
With vivid illustrations and a fantastic storyline, children will learn the importance of helping animals who may become injured due to man's negligence. This colorful tale makes for an interesting and educational read—a great reminder not only for children but adults as well.

And the story behind the story is just icing on the cake.

The book also includes a useful Parents' page that directs you to a sea turtle webpage. A sure win for both boys and girls.
